The Minneapolis Athletic Club opened its doors in 1912 to a new generation.
These were the days of banquet halls, ballrooms, and social clubs. Athletes became celebrities, celebrities traveled and there was only one place to stay when the train left the station: The Minneapolis Athletic Club.
Fitness was a burgeoning obsession and there was finally a place to wear breathable cotton with other like-minded zealots.
In the year 2000, after a $50 million renovation, the Minneapolis Athletic Club reopened as the Grand Hotel. A boutique hotel – what is a boutique hotel? Basically a bed and breakfast but bigger and without the uncomfortable breakfast.
On June 16th, the Grand will officially reopen under new ownership. San-Francisco based Kimpton Hotels hired Tanek to update the lobby and bar – I might just have to pack some breathable cotton and stay a night.
