about The Lowry for Mpls St Paul Magazine. She wrote a little more but I hate to brag (no, I don’t)…

Oh, fine. Here’s the whole thing:

The Lowry Brings Burgers and Oysters to Uptown
09/01/2011

From METRO and Becki Iverson:

Gleaming, polished wood. A roaring wood fire. Friendly service from beautiful people.

This description may sound like an unreachable Aspen ski-lodge fantasy, but it actually portrays Uptown’s newest addition, The Lowry. Formerly a Hollywood Video, the location was completely transformed by local architecture and design firm Tanek this summer and is now open.

More about the Lowry. And me.

I can’t wait to see the Lowry’s menu, logo, and signage BECAUSE I just found out that they were done by Blinc Publishing! Mr. Bill Moran

(he demands that title) owns this St. Paul letterpress/design studio and had some words to say to Chaleece about the new restaurant (opening August 2):

>“I was blown away by the attention to detail and choice of materials. It’s an honor to have our design work associated with your space. Kudos to you and your team.”

I know what you’re thinking: Why didn’t Zeichen Press have anything to do with this? And I swear, I’m not bitter and scheming ways to get such a glorious project. I’m totally cool with it. I refuse to get all competitive with other letterpress studios. Besides, blood doping is very common these days and doesn’t mean I can hand feed my press like the wind. The wind.

Hopkins Pizza Lucé : Destination found mid-journey
06/14/2010

What if I started this blog post with dry data and statistics about the increase in Greenway traffic ? What if I went on and on about the rising percentage of recreational and commuting cyclists over the past 10 years? What if I was just hung up on the idea that 1,000,000 people use the Greenway each year? Wouldn’t that be boring?

Everyone knows that the best place to have a lemonade stand is right, smack on the edge of the sidewalk. A busy sidewalk. With thirsty people. At the end of the day the pitchers are empty and the cigar box is jammed full of money. Some would call that free enterprise, I call it Summer. I wonder if the owners of Pizza Lucé had lemonade stands when they were kids…  Lucé has been working with Tanek to open their 6th (what?!) restaurant – located right, smack on the edge of the Greenway at 210 N. Blake Road Hopkins, MN.

This new location will have a similar feel to the recently finished Downtown Lucé (redesigned, naturally, by Tanek) but with some twists, here’s one of my favorites:

Little fixit stations for your bicycle! Isn’t that cool? Now I can “accidentally” pop my tire and order a Maximus and a Surly Firkin! What will they think of next? How about a bar area with overhead garage doors that open up to a patio? Okay – they thought of that too. Tanek and Lucé are going to milk every last drop out of Summer! They plan to open in July and I plan to be there.

PS: Elisa Richardson demonstrates how to hang a sign – with style:

Pizza Lucé + Target Field = ♥
03/26/2010

Oh, Minnesota! Is there any limit to your generosity? Destinations, attractions, celebrities??? Yes, yes and yes!!! I thought the hoodoo of diversion had been reached with the unveiling of Ed’s Museum in Wykoff.

Not so!

This is a build up, of course, to the new (spoiled) kid in town: The Target Field. I’m sure those Pohlads/Target planned the completion of the new stadium to coincide with the completion of the Pizza Lucé remodel/addition. They love a slice before the game. It’s perfect, really: From the entrance of Pizza Lucé to home plate is exactly (really?) 500 steps.

Some of the chitter-chatter surrounding the new Lucé addition was heard the other day on our beloved Cities 97 morning show – those guys get it!

A Minneapolis night-on-the-(down)town has changed forever: the hip restaurants are now only a baseballs-throw away from the stadium. Go Twins!
